HEALTHY SKIN STARTS WITH YOUR DNA

Our DNA Skin Kit will help you create a personalized skincare treatment strategy. Not everyone’s skin is the same, understanding your individual biochemistry and genetic inheritance will teach you exactly what your skin needs to stay healthy and glowing.

What will I learn about my skin?

We analyse variations on 18 genes associated with:

  • Skin Health & Aging
  • Collagen Formation
  • Protection from Sun & UV Exposure
  • Inflammation
  • Protection from Oxidative Stress

Our findings allow us to determine whether you are high risk, medium risk, or low risk in the following 7 categories of skin aging:

  1. Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Collagen is an important protein that helps prevent the formation of wrinkles by improving skin elasticity and hydration. Our genes play a significant role in our body’s ability to form collagen and influences the rate at which it degrades. Another important contributor to wrinkles is the process of glycation. Glycation is highly dependent on our intake of sugar (glucose) and the rate at which we can genetically rid our bodies of the by-products of sugar metabolites, known as advanced glycation end products (AGEs). These AGEs damage skin proteins and can inhibit the production of collagen and elastin or contribute towards breaking them down. Certain gene variations result in a higher rate of glycation and being aware of this enables us to take the proper precautionary measures.

  1. Sun Protection

The sun’s UV rays can be extremely damaging to your skin, especially if you’re genetically predisposed to the damage, pigmentation and/or skin discolouration they can cause. On the other hand, you may be one of the lucky ones with genes that offer extra sun protection. The results of your DNA Skin Test will help you assess how cautious you need to be when out in the sun as well as the type and strength of sunscreen that’s best for you.

  1. Skin Sensitivity

Skin inflammation and sensitivity can be frustrating and are also key factors in aging. Inflammatory reactions such as rashes, itchy/sensitive skin, and breaking out in spots can be caused by a genetic predisposition. Our analysis can help determine what factors are causing this sensitivity, so you can avoid them as much as possible.

  1. Skin Elasticity

Skin should be supple and able to stretch back to its original shape. Collagen and elastin are responsible for giving skin its structure. We already know that genes play a role in the production and maintenance of these proteins, meaning they also play a role in our natural elasticity.

  1. Pigmentation

Melanin is a skin pigment that protects us from harmful UV rays. It absorbs and dissipates the rays to block UV radiation from damaging our DNA and potentially causing skin cancer. Our genes define how much melanin is in our skin and can tell us how careful we need to be about sun exposure.

  1. Collagen Quality

The firmness and elasticity of our skin is determined by collagen, which gives it a plump and smooth appearance. Fine lines and wrinkles appear as we age because our body’s ability to regenerate collagen decreases. This test can determine if you have an imbalance of the genes responsible for synthesising and breaking down collagen, resulting in a genetic predisposition to premature aging.

  1. Skin Antioxidants

Antioxidants are responsible for helping skin look youthful and fresh. They protect against the damaging process of oxidation caused by free radicals. Genes play a significant role in determining your skin’s natural ability to produce antioxidants. You may need to give your skin extra support to fight free radicals in order to keep it young and healthy.
